4 Simple Senior Dating Tips

February is the most romantic month of the year, and it’s a great time to start exploring the dating scene again. Whether you’re looking to meet new people and have fun or searching for something more serious, there are plenty of fun ways to connect with other seniors. Here are some of our favorite senior dating tips that don’t involve apps or browsing the web.

Get Out There

One of the best places to meet someone special is in your daily life. What activities do you love to participate in? Spending time in places like senior centers, joining clubs that are relevant to your interests, volunteering in the community, and even attending church can all bring you face-to-face with other seniors interested in making new friends or dating. When you’re out and about, make sure that you aren’t just scrolling your phone the whole time. Be open to talking with new people.

Think About What You Want

Everyone wants something different from their relationships—which is true at any age! When you are starting to enter the dating scene again, be intentional about what you want. Knowing your likes and dislikes can help you think critically about where your ideal partner might be spending time and who they might surround themselves with. For example, if you are looking for someone active, joining a pickleball or running club might be a great way to meet them. If you are religious and dating someone with the same spiritual beliefs is important to you, make sure that you are attending a church that aligns with your perspective.

Say Yes

It’s easy to think about all of the reasons why we can’t do something. Whether it’s a show that you love watching every Thursday night or a weekly lunch that you like to attend, don’t be afraid to break out of your routine a little bit and say yes. You might be surprised how much going out of your comfort zone can expand your horizons and help you make new connections.

Be Open and Honest

Sometimes you can get caught up in all the dating rules, advice columns or the dating lines that are repeated in romantic comedies, like waiting to call for three days. It’s a much better idea to be totally transparent about how you’re feeling. There is no need to spend weeks or months in a relationship that makes you feel like you are walking on eggshells!
