Keeping Your Senior Safe with New and Innovative Technology

Technology has been changing the world as we know it for decades now, and the newest batch of releases aim to help senior citizens stay safe through GPS-enabled wearable devices, motion sensors and more. Technology can help elders live more independently and stay safer than ever before.

GPS-Enabled Products

GPS is a powerful tool for helping get medical care to seniors as quickly as possible, or tracking down a senior with Alzheimer’s who cannot be found. Smart Sole shoe inserts are comfortable shoe inserts designed for seniors at a high risk of wandering. They can be charged every day and re-inserted and they automatically log the location of the wearer. Medical alert systems today also often contain GPS tracking capabilities. Some, like the Philips Lifeline GoSafe, even include two-way microphones to communicate with your loved one directly.

Motion & Pressure Sensor Products

For other seniors with a high risk of wandering, motion and pressure sensor products are useful tools. There are many different bed sensor pads and floor mats that can be used to notify you if your loved one gets up during the night. Depending on the system you choose, an alarm can go off or you could potentially receive a notification through an app.

Medication Assistance

One recent study found that the average American senior has to manage a whopping 14 prescription drugs at a time. The dosage and timing of each pill can quickly get confusing, which is why there are many different new types of medication assistance. Some pill boxes have alarms to remind seniors when they need to take their pills. Other companies are creating smart pill bottles. These bottles can send a signal, like a phone call or text message, when the senior needs to take the medication if the bottle has not been opened within a certain amount of time.
